While
your CAN Board and membership has been busy for 2009, there is still
the need for more 'active' members for 2010. We have projects
that are constantly coming before CAN that require community input AND
there are areas which would benefit from CAN representation, but we
simply don't have the staffing to do it.......we need YOU!
2009 CAN PERFORMANCE HIGHLIGHTS
MEMBERSHIP & FINANCIAL
- Membership increased 35% over 2008
- Improved the monthly performance of the CAN Irrevocable Trust Funds 577% at current rates
- Repositioned the CAN Quality of Life Grants into better performing financial instruments to obtain higher yields to fund community projects
- Engaged
three(3) strategic corporate citizens to widen the business
involvement within CAN-- Emory University Hospital Midtown, Publix, and
BP Gas Station
PUBLIC SAFETY
- Advocated
for Code Enforcement to address severe property neglect that was in
code violation & threats to public safety (specifically 392
Angier Ave.)
- Re-established a
positive working relationship with Atlanta Police Dept to engage and
have them a part of the CAN monthly meeting review
- Provided CAN representation on the NPU M Public Safety Committee with Atlanta Police Dept.
NEIGHBORHOOD PROJECTS & INITIATIVES
- Co-Sponsored the Intown Atlanta Clean-up with neighboring businesses, city government, & residents of CAN
- Co-sponsored Unity in the Community Celebration to
recognize business owners, Atlanta Fire Dept Personnel, and
Atlanta Police Dept Personnel for their contributions to
improve quality of life within O4W.
- Supported the Centennial Park Bike Path Project along Highland-Baker corridor
- Advocated for Zoning Enforcement to address development projects within CAN boundaries
- Provided
joint representation with neighboring associations for improved
re-development plans by Wingate Properties (a.k.a. Bedford Pines) for
the multi-unit housing re-development project. [on-going]
- Participated in the Mayor-Elect (Kasim Reed) Pre-Inaugural Clean-up @ Renaissance Park
PARKS
- Worked with
Atlanta Parks & Recreation to improve the maintenance of CAN
parks through neighborhood involvement from CAN, Park Pride,
and Keep Atlanta Beautiful
EDUCATION
- Joined forces with neighboring associations to support the recently approved Intown Academy Charter School for O4W
GENERAL/INTERNAL
- Reaffirmed CAN's presence in the NPU M Process
- Improved
CAN routines & controls to facilitate operation in the
interest of the neighborhood & approved projects
- Updated the CAN website & Yahoo! Group Administration for improved communication
